Yesterday

Bryan came over and helped me move all my furniture to the tiled parts of my apartment so my carpets could be cleaned this morning. Then we sat on the floor in my empty room while he tried to convince me to give him a haircut. I told him that if he valued his ears he wouldn't trust me with scissors anywhere near them.

After Bryan left, I packed a small bag and drove to Nikki's. She offered to let me spend the night at her apartment and watch Blitz while I was at work today. When I got there she was finishing a book she had been reading all day while laying out so I took Bella, her dog, and Blitz to the dog park.

I met up with Jenn at the dog park. She was on her cell phone 65.43% of the time we were there talking to a pet adoption agency in Houston about her future golden retriever. She was so excited about her new puppy it was all she could talk about, despite my attempts to engage her in a conversation about the awkwardness of seeing my ex-boyfriend's ex-girlfriend/current best friend at the dog park. After I pried the phone from her ear we sat and talked about ... till it got dark and we were the only ones left at the park.

We returned to Nikki's to watch Gothica, which always makes me think about Rikka and Michael. Three years ago we were at the movie theatre at Barton Creek Mall about to watch whoknowswhat when the preview for Gothica came on. After all the scary images, flashing lights and dramatic music faded the movie title "Gothica" flashed on the screen. While the rest of the theatre sat and silently pondered if it would really be worth seeing, Rikki, in her infinite childlike enthusiasm, yelled, " Got Hika!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!". A few months later, Michael invited me over to make mac & cheese and rented Gothica. That night we laid on the floor of his new furniture-less condo in with all the lights out and tried to pretend we weren't a little bit freaked out by the dark emptiness behind us. At one point in the movie, as the ominous music was clearly building up to something terrifying, Michael, perfectly timed with the demonface that flashed across the screen, grabbed my shoulders from behind and yelled in my ear...shattering all my attempts to be cool and not scream at a silly scary movie.

Needless to say, last night I already knew all the scary parts and covered my face in time to miss all of them. How very grown up of me!

3 Pictures

Some dumbass is atually feeding deer outside my apartment.

Nikki and I went fishing one night. This is all we caught.

Gauchos and paint don't mix. This is one of my all time top accidental paint spills.

Last night...

I may have gotten highly intoxicated and jumped in a river. By myself. In a white t-shirt and pink bra. While everyone took pictures. Dammit.

Someone, somewhere is laughing at me

Someone, somewhere is laughing at me. At least I hope so...because they're the only person getting a kick out of my life right now. I certainly am not.

I have been looking for a job for 3 weeks. Thats right folks. That comes out to 21 days. Today I got my first call back from my last choice job- Factory Brand Shoes at the outlet mall. "We're hiring for a seasonal position," they say. Ok. "But we need you to work the graveyard shift. That would be 10pm to 6am. Oh yeah. The pay is $6/hr". What the hell!??! 4 years of college, 8 different jobs under my belt and a stellar resume and they offer me f-ing $6/hr FOR THE GRAVEYARD SHIFT. They obviously know I'm desperate and really have no choice. The vet bills start coming in on Monday.

Want another helping of the crap going on? For 9 months I have been making plans with my current roommate, Brittany, and a good friend of mine, Katie, to move from our apartment into a 3 bedroom house. 9 months we've been planning this. YESTERDAY Brittany decides she wants to live elsewhere. Thats 6 days before we have to tell our landlord if we will be resigning our lease. And to make matters even worse...they raised our rent from $690 to $780. For the same damn apartment. Thats what we get for being good renters. As if it even needs to be said, all the 2 bedrooms in San Marcos are s--t holes. I wouldn't make a homeless person live in the places I've been looking at. All the apartments in San Marcos are either full or s--t holes too.

P.S...my ex-Aunt is suing my family. Thats right. We've all been subpoenaed to testify in Pearl River, Mississippi in August. I can't wait.

its never to late

this is a conversation between me and my bestfriend.

PaulSP6: oh... jenn (his ex-girlfriend from hs) facebooked me. i kind of felt weird about it
me: you shouldn't
PaulSP6: i guess
PaulSP6: i just feel the need to apologize :-)
me: to her???
PaulSP6: yea.... i'm trying this new thing... where i apologize for things :-)
me: i don't get it
PaulSP6: i figure for me to start over... which i basically what i did moving to chicago. i should start by getting things off my conscious
me: what's on your conscience about her? that was so long ago anyway
PaulSP6: i guess. i just feel bad about adding to all the crap she was going through
me: yes...that wasn't good...but its all water under the bridge
me: ok...so where is my applogy?
PaulSP6: um...
PaulSP6: should i be sorry for something?
me: lol...no...but i liked making you squirm for just a little bit
PaulSP6: i didn't squirm
PaulSP6: i knew you were kidding
me: jerk...whatever...lol
PaulSP6: oh... i got one. i'm sorry i was gone when you were having a tough time in austin. i should have been there
me: are you really sorry? or are you just saying that?
PaulSP6: i'm really sorry.
PaulSP6: i wanted to be there
PaulSP6: i really did
me: well thank you. i don't need to forgive you though. i never was really upset at you about that.
PaulSP6: yea. i know. i just didn't realize how unhappy you were in austin till i got back from china (he spent 9 mths studying abroad)
PaulSP6: or maybe even a semester after that
me: really?
PaulSP6: yea. we didn't really get a chance to communicate too much when i was gone and we were both busy when i came back.
me: yeah...but even then...i guess i really wouldn't have talked to you about it that much anyway
PaulSP6: true
PaulSP6: ok. i'll let you get back to studying...i got to get some sleep. i didn't get into denver till 430 this morning
me: dang...well...gnight
PaulSP6: night kiddo

we have this minimalistic kind of friendship. we share this bond that we don't talk about. we tease about how much we drive each other crazy but in reality i would do just about anything for him, as i know he would do for me. we don't have to talk about how much we care for each other, that would be just plain weird anyway, but we know its there. i love him like a brother. but i'll never tell him that.

thursday jokes

Auto response from hnppage: Contest of the Day: Tell me your favorite joke (it can be super funny or super lame). The top 3 best jokes will make my away message. Ready...Set...GO!

SWTLori2006: What did the bra say to the hat?
SWTLori2006: You go on a head...I'll give these two a lift!

SWTLori2006: and my other joke is...a guy walks into a bar carrying a tiny man playing a tiny piano...the bartender says, "Hey where'd you get him...he's so cool." The guy says there's a genie outside and he'll grant you any wish. The bartender goes outside and makes his wish...he comes back in followed by a long line of ducks...the bartender looks at the guy and says, "Hey, I wished for a million bucks and he gave me a million ducks." The guy says, "I know, you think I wished for a 12 inch pianist?"

Arthur's Family Fun & A Cinderella Story

this has pretty much been one of the saddest weeks of my life. yes...i've been depressed before. yes...i've been sad before. but i've never felt despair and grief to the extent that i've felt it in the past week. i had planned to go out with my childhood friend, annemarie, tonight while arthur was with his family preparing for his mother's burial tommorow. i was really really looking foward to seeing her. she is always a breath of fresh air to me... she is so alive. we had a date planned- she was gonna pick up at 6:30, take me out to dinner and the rest was a suprise. then around noon she called me with some bad news...she was sick. sick sick sick. the kinda sick where she couldn't leave the bathroom and "i'll leave the rest of the details up for your imagination" kinda sick. man, i was pretty disapointed. i really miss that girl sometimes. it's been almost 7 mths since the last time i've seen her. we've been friends since 7th grade and we go through our ups and downs together but she really is that friend that i can call no matter what. she is the first person i called crying to talk about arthur's mom. she knows me better than almost everyone. she will probably be my future maid-of-honor. but i love her because of her loyalty and her heart.

so as i'm laying in bed, snuggled up with blitz and a jane austin book i get a text message to look on my front poarch. On the top step is a small package wrapped in yellow ribbon. Inside are 2 DVDs, Arthur's Family Fun & A Cinderella Story (Starring Hillary Duff). The names "Arthur" and "Hillary" on each package are underlined. Attached with curly ribbon is a card that says "Watch these silly movies together and remember how strong you two are together- Love Annemarie".

This is why I love this girl. Somehow, after all these years and all the distance between us she still knows just what to do to make me smile.

Sunday, January 1

so this is the new year

So this is the new year and i don't feel any different.
The clanking of crystal, explosions off in the distance in the distance.
So this is the new year and I have no resolutions.
For self assigned penance, for problems with easy solutions.
So everybody put your best suit or dress on.
Let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once.
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn.
As thirty dialogues bleed into one.
I wish the world was flat like the old days.
Then i could travel just by folding a map.
No more airplanes, or speedtrains, or freeways.
There'd be no distance that can hold us back.
There'd be no distance that can hold us back.

ha!

this is my enagement gift to a friend of mine from church. she is getting married in july and she has managed to stay a virgin. thus, i have decided on this rather ireverent gift set featuring the presbyterian cross of the church we both grew up in. this could make for a rather drab honeymoon...

  • Watched Texas State, the only football team that I've ever been a true fan of, lose a disappointing semi-finals game in over time
  • Drank 4 strawberry daiquiris
  • Tryed to hook my roommate up with a guy that was more my type than her's
  • Invented a new game...
  • Shared a delish chocolate chip paradise pie with Lori at Chili's
  • Laughed "on the inside"
  • Was hit on by some guys as I walked Blitz outside. They yelled "you're hot. call me" and then proceeded to yell their phone number at me. Nice try.
  • Remebered the golden rule of seatbelts- treat them as you would want to be treated
  • Was mooned by my friend's boyfriend at a long stoplight...then I got to see him wipe his butt-print off the car window
  • Wasn't sure if Arthur was telling me the truth

Auto response from HNPPage: hanging out with Ben in ATX

SWTLori2006: I like that you're on a first name basis...like if you were to see him walking down the street you'd say "hey ben" and he'd be like "hey hil what up?"

Just Do It!

Do this...
1. Reply with your name and I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. (This possibly will not apply to all).
5. I'll tell you my first memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal .

Molly said about me:
1. I don't know if you like Desperate Housewives (i don't)
2. Anything Racall Flatts
3. Strawberry
4. BOSOM BUDDIES (inside joke)
5. Sunday School, you told us that you were going to have a good day because you were picking your boyfriend up from the airport
6. a longhorn
7. what is your ATM pin #? (HA!)
