looking back...

austin holds a weird place in my heart. it can best be described as a love/hate relationship. for the two-and-a-half years i lived there i was always wishing i were someplace else, san antonio, ingram or sequin. anywhere but my wretched dormroom in jester. i associate that city with so many horrible memories and through no fault of its own, i hated it with a red-hot passion. i remember the feeling of dread that would come over me the closer i got to the austin city limits sign and by the time i got to the william cannon exit i would be almost in tears. when i thought of austin i thought of my failures, my broken heart and my bitter loneliness.

but, i can't forget all the amazing things that happened to me while i lived in that fair city. i really stepped out of my box (for lack of a better term) and experienced things that, for the most part, i don't regret. i met some crazy people along the way, most of which i will never see or talk to again, but the impression they've left on my life is impossible to ignore. i really found my true self while living in austin.

the reason for this rant? as i was searching for drink specials in austin for tonight i ran across this picture. it reminded me why i will always, ultimately, be drawn back to austin:

its the polka-dot lawn at west 29th & glenview. i ran across it one afternoon in a rush to get from toy joy to a friend's birthday dinner off mopac. just a good reminder of what i really loved about austin. there is just something about the spirit of a town that celebrates multi-colored polka-dots on a lawn of dead grass that is immensely lovable!

so anyway...its back to my old stomping grounds tonight. $1 margaritas rock my face off, especially after a week like this!!!

thoughts...

- dilemma: i liked posting on xanga because i got comments. i disliked posting on xanga because i felt like i had to sensor my journal. on blogger i don't have to sensor, but don't get any comments. i want my cake and i wanna friggin' eat it too dammit!

- i don't know how to feel about my friends making official the termination of our friendship by eliminating me from their profile and deleting me as one of their facebook-friends. why does this shit continue to happen to me with girls? if you know please let me know. even if you have to make the comment anonymous. tell me what is so unloveable about me.

Jolt from Normality

The healthy being craves an occasional wildness, a jolt from normality, a sharpening of the edge of appetite, his own little festival of Saturnalia, a brief excursion from his way of life.

smile lori!

ME: are you ok?
LORI: i don't know for sure...i'm not in the mood to talk about it right now because i just stopped crying
LORI:in short...my boyfriend of 5 yrs doesn't know if he's in love with me anymore

that statement made my heart stop. lori is one of the few girls in this world that i love and trust compleatly. her and her boyfriend are the most amazing couple i have ever met and i look up to them and hope that my relationship with arthur is half as strong as theirs is...or was. i am almost crying right now too because it kills me for someone i care about to hurt so much.

girls suck...but i already knew this

i don't know why i am being so stupid about this. a wedding is all about the love between two people and the role of their friends is to support and celebrate their union and nothing else! so why do i take it so personal when a certain close friend chooses not to include me in her wedding party? i think its less about being in the wedding and more about seeing where i rank in her life. especially since her "best friend", who has been horrible to her in the last few years as she often vents to me, has been chosen as a bridesmaid. i know it is so petty to feel this way but i can't help but feel like i have been deceived about the importance of our friendship.

part of why i think this hurts is because i had another friend who got married just last weekend. she had previously asked me to be one of her attendants. we were supposed to live together this year (while her husband returned to Iraq) but at the last moment she decided she wanted to live alone and pretty much dropped me with no notice or any other available options for my living situation. I did not receive a wedding invitation this summer and i didn't even know when the ceremony was until 3 days before it took place. and even then i heard it from other people. i see her at least once a week and she has yet to talk to me. i don't even know what shes upset about but obviuosly its enough to cut me out of her life. i hate girls! i don't know why i try so fucking hard.

seriously.
